Zambia L10n Wikigroup Community

Welcome to the homepage for the Zambia wikigroup on the PanAfriL10n wiki. A wikigroup is a separate section of the larger wiki (see below for more information).

Our hope is to use it as a common free space on the web for gathering info, contacts and links. In theory, each localisation initiative can either link here or add a page about its activities.

What can be done on a wikigroup?

To answer that, the first thing to understand is What is a wiki? A wiki (from the word for "quick" in the Hawaiían language) is a software that lets you add information and even create new pages online, with your web browser. It is in many ways like the Wikipedia.

This wikigroup can be used to:

  • share information
  • describe a project
  • set up a simple directory of localisation experts
  • and more

Is this taking the place of Zambian resources?

No. Simply put this is a way of highlighting Zambian efforts. It is a flexible and free space to bring together information on localisation efforts in Zambia and link it with information from other countries, and interAfrican and international organisations.

What's the advantage?

This is part of a large resource on localization in Africa, with large and increasing amount of information as well as links. It's quick, it's easy, and beyond that it's what we make it.

This wikigroup complements the existing L10n Profile of Zambia at http://www.panafril10n.org/wikidoc/pmwiki.php/PanAfrLoc/Zambia and the language pages that are linked to it.

Since each wikigroup also is part of a larger site with other wikigroups and basic information on languages, ICT and localization, it forms part of a larger PanAfrican community of localisers, activists, scholars, and fieldworkers who are developing ways of using the new ICTs in African languages to benefit Africa.

Customising the wikigroup

Each wikigroup can have its own look (see "Skins" in the lefthand column), but for now it is the basic look of the PmWiki software we are using.
