Activities of UNECA include the African Information Society Initiative (AISI), founded in 1996, and promoting countries' adoption of National Information and Communications Infrastructure (NICI) plans.
As part of its effort to support AISI, UNECA has set up the Information Technology Centre for Africa (ITCA) in 1999.
