Hi All, We want to invite you to join us on Tuesday, May 15th from 12:00pm to 1:00pm for a no cost webinar with our very own Matt Garcia! He will talk through basics terms and uses about nonprofit technology, including answering questions like: Our monthly webinars are provided to support nonprofits and social justice organizations use technology more effectively for their work. We want to hear from you! Email help@aspirationtech.org to suggest an upcoming webinar topic. We started the conversation about how they see technology supporting the work of the folks in Long Beach. We learned heaps about what they are doing to build a healthier community, and their goal to redefine what “health” means to them. We look forward to supporting the empowering work they are already doing. Many thanks for the warm welcome! Want to hear more about what BHC Long Beach is up too? Connect with them on Facebook or Twitter! Because one can never amass enough frequent flyer miles, it’s off to Sydney, Australia to make merry at ConnectingUp 2012 with our finest friends from down under. Gunner will be delivering a keynote entitled Another Cloud is Possible (download keynote slides) and offering a full-day workshop, Taking Control of Your Nonprofit’s Online Destiny. He is also offically tickled pink the ConnectingUp gang has invited him to share in the MC duties. A big thanks to ConnectingUp for having us down, and we look forward to all the fun at CU12, and many future adventures! Ready or not, here May comes… ramp up your online communications this Spring with our series of Lunch Time Tech Talks. Bring your own lunch and be ready to participate. We headed straight from the Soapbox User Summit to Geneva, Switzerland to facilitate the Internet Society’s first-ever Collaborative Leadership Exchange, an interactive community discussion which took place at the start of Global INET 2012. Check out the #ISOCCLX listening dashboard as well as a great write-up about the event! Aspiration’s ongoing collaboration with PICnet continues unabated at the 2012 Soapbox User Summit in Washington DC, where we’ll help steer the festivities and let users drive the dialog. We hope to see you there! Our inner crypto geek is hyperventilating as we hang in New York City to help run the
Wall Street Journal’s first-ever Data Transparency Weekend, a codeathon where 120 privacy and anonymity geeks will prototype and code tools to help give online users greater control over their online identity and activity. Check out images and tweets from the Friday night opening dinner, the Saturday codeathon and the Sunday wrapup, as well as the #wsjdata hashtag and Flickr photo stream. We are happy to be hanging with lots of allies and projects that inspire us, including Tor Project, Guardian Project, Mozilla Collusion, CryptoCat, and OStel. Big thanks for all the fun to Julia Angwin and Jennifer Valentino-DeVries at WSJ, and Tonia and Colleen at Modern Media. I landed in the midst of a regional tornado warning for the 2012 Grants Managers Network Conference, where we were grateful to be invited by our friends at Mitchell Kapor Foundation to share Aspiration’s take on how Foundations think about using the so-called cloud in a session titled What Cloud Computing Can Do For You and Your Grantees. The slides don’t fully reflect the concerns that were discussed in the session. Great questions led to back-and-forth about appropriate levels of distrust for corporate cloud storage and ulterior motives of for-profit entities providing free and cheap cloud offerings to 501c3 organizations. A huge thanks to Tiffany Price at Kapor and the whole GMN Conference team for inviting us to be a part of the fun! Have a look at the slideware and let me know what you think! We have had such a great response to our Lunch Time Tech Talk training series, that we are going to offer an encore performance. We are holding a series of no-cost workshops at the SFNTC and online webinars for nonprofits and social justice organizations to ramp up their online communications.
