Locales
Locales for Africa
Our aim is to create as many locales for OpenOffice.org as we can during the event.
Complete locales
Many thanks to Eike Rath of Sun who checked and helped fix problems in the locales and of course to the participants who managed to complete the locale and give feedback to Eike. Below is a list of new locales that have been integrated into OpenOffice.org as a result of the blitz (as at 2007-07-04).
Participants & their proposed locales
- First prize - you speak the language and live in the country
- Second prize - you speak the language and know someone in the country
- Third prize - you know someone who speaks the language and lives in the country
Current African Locales in OpenOffice.org
These are here so that you know what locales you don't need to think of doing. Sorry for you someone got here first.
NB: Hausa and Ewe have been submitted to OOo by Chris Manu (kasahorow) for inclusion in the next release. (pki). I can't find any bug reports and don't seem to see it in 2.2, can you give me pointers? (db)
Some suggested locales (based on official/national language status)
This is quite an extensive list of potential locales. They include many official and national languages and African LWCs (languages of wider communication). This is your starting point to pick a locale. If one is missing it doesn't mean we don't want to do it. If you speak a language that is not on this list you are more than welcome to create a locale.
