Languages of Ethiopia for localisation

The sidebar has a link to the language profile pages for 6 of the languages and language groups in Ethiopia that are listed among the major languages of Africa. But any language can be the subject of localization.

Locale data for Ethiopian languages

One of the first steps for localisation is to complete and file "locale data." Languages of Ethiopia for which locale data has been filed include:

• Afar
• Amharic
• Ge'ez
• Oromo
• Sidamo
• Somali
• Tigrinya
• Wolaytta, Walamo

Usually a language that is spoken in several countries will have a locale for each language-country combination. In the case of Tigrinya or Somali, for instance, a locale has been submitted for those languages in other countries too.
